FANUC parts repair service

The repair half of the desk: failed FANUC amplifiers, motors, boards, controls and pendants, diagnosed on the bench before a repair is priced. The service covers the same families the catalogue sells, and it is run by the same people who stock them.

How repair inquiries are handled

A repair inquiry starts with three things: the part number of the failed unit, the machine it came out of, and the symptom as the machine showed it. The unit is then booked in and diagnosed on the test bench, where the fault is located inside the unit — to a stage in an amplifier, a section of a board, a winding or bearing in a motor. Only after that finding does the repair get a price, because a repair priced before diagnosis is a guess wearing a number.

The finding decides the shape of the answer. A unit with one failed stage is a repair. A unit with damage across several stages may be priced honestly against the shelf alternative — and the desk puts both figures in front of the buyer, because the same building holds the catalogue shelves. Nothing in the process obliges the buyer to take either route; the diagnosis itself is the first deliverable.

What comes in for repair

Amplifiers are the steadiest intake: servo and spindle modules with power-stage and control faults, including the combined servo/spindle units. Boards come next — control PCBs with component-level faults, where a board repair keeps the exact fitted board in service, which matters on older control generations whose boards are scarce. Motors arrive with winding, bearing and feedback faults; teach pendants arrive with screens, key rows and cables; control units arrive whole, to have their internal boards separated into the guilty and the innocent.

Feedback devices — the A860 encoders and pulse coders — are assessed rather than repaired in most cases: the bench test convicts or clears the device, and that verdict is often the answer the buyer actually needed, because the alternative suspects in a feedback chain are the cable and the amplifier's input.

Diagnosis before quotation

The sequence — diagnose, then quote — is the service's whole discipline, and it exists because of one recurring waste: units replaced at full price for faults that lived in a cable, a connector or a neighbouring unit. The bench process described on the test bench page is the same one applied to repair intake: reproduce the fault where possible, locate it inside the unit, and let the quotation follow the location. A fault that cannot be reproduced is reported as exactly that, with the conditions under which it was tested.

Buyers can help the diagnosis more than they usually realise. The alarm as displayed, the conditions when it appears — cold, warm, under load, after a power event — and what has already been swapped are the three facts that most change a bench plan. They cost one paragraph in the inquiry and routinely save the unit a second journey.

Repair, replace, or both

Most repair inquiries end in one of three answers: repair the unit, replace it from the shelf, or repair it and hold a shelf unit as the spare the machine evidently needs. The desk's habit is to lay the applicable options side by side with their prices and let the buyer choose with the machine's circumstances in view — a stopped production line and a planned maintenance window are different problems that happen to share a part number.

Where a repair is chosen, the repaired unit is tested through the same bench gate as a shelf unit before it returns, and the seller's warranty terms for repaired and sold goods are stated with the quotation. Where a replacement is chosen, the failed unit can still travel in for assessment — its verdict informs the spare strategy even when its own repair is declined.

Starting a repair inquiry

Use the contact form or write to the supplier desk with the part number, the machine, and the symptom paragraph. Say whether the machine is stopped; stopped machines are sequenced first at the bench, and the desk would rather know on day one than discover it on day three. If the unit is one of the catalogue's named numbers — an A06B amplifier, the A16B board, the A05B pendant — its detail page records the identity information the bench will work from.
