fanuc io module
FANUC I/O units
The I/O units that connect a FANUC control to its machine: module I/O and PCB I/O, carrying the pushbuttons, limit switches, relays and solenoids of the machine side. This page is about CNC control I/O specifically.
I/O units for FANUC controls
Search results for I/O modules mix two different worlds: CNC control I/O, and PLC-rack I/O from the GE FANUC PLC line. They are not the same parts and they are not interchangeable. The units on this page are the CNC side only — the I/O units the seller publishes for FANUC CNC controls, in the two forms the catalogue names: module I/O and PCB I/O. If the part being replaced sits in the machine cabinet and wires the control to the machine, it belongs to this family; if it sits in a PLC rack, it does not.
The seller's own description of the family is functional: these units handle the machine's input and output signals for the control, the path by which a cycle-start button, a door switch or a hydraulic relay reaches the CNC. Replacement intent is by the unit's own number and by the control series it serves.
The two published forms
Both forms do the same job; the fitted form is decided by the cabinet that is already built.
| Form | Catalogue position | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Module I/O | Standalone I/O module units in the cabinet | CNC controls |
| PCB I/O | Board-form I/O, shelved by the seller beside the PCB family | PCBs |
| Operator panel connections | I/O serving the operator panel and MDI side | Displays |
When an I/O unit is the suspect
I/O faults show up as machine behaviour, not as axis alarms: a cycle that will not start with every condition apparently met, an input that flickers, an output that drives nothing. Because the same symptoms come from wiring and from the machine-side devices themselves, the desk's first questions are about which signals are affected and whether they share one unit. Sending that pattern — which inputs or outputs, on which machine, with which control series — turns a vague I/O inquiry into a checkable one.
Ordering I/O units
Quote the number from the unit in the cabinet and the control series it serves. Where the number is unreadable, the form factor is the next best key: module or board form, and the connector pattern as fitted. I/O units are also a repair family — a unit with one dead channel group is a bench candidate, and the test bench can confirm which side of the unit the fault sits on before a replacement is ordered.
